Good Governance is an approach to government that is committed to creating a system founded in justice and peace that protects individual’s human rights, civil, political, and economic rights. According to the United Nations, Good Governance is measured by the eight factors of Participation, Rule of Law, Transparency, Responsiveness, Consensus Oriented, Equity and Inclusiveness, Effectiveness and Efficiency, and Accountability.Governance refers to the way in which public officials and public institutions acquire and exercise political power to manage country’s affairs and resources. Good governance has been a top priority in development discourse for sustainable development.
Good governance is one of the thematic areas of Freedom For All Nepal (FAN). It works to build capacity of the 'demand side' so as to enable people to claim their entitlements, public goods and services. It lobbies at policy level and disseminates cases of governance failure and issues of inclusive governance and democracy. FAN will collaborate with all civil society organizations (NGOs, CBOs and Media) sub-national to national level to create demand for good governance from the bottom-up and uses social accountability tools to engage people in exacting accountability and transparency. It will conduct research on governance issues and directly communicates with concerned government authorities and policy framers.
FAN, in partnership with various sectors and bodies of government carries out social movement for the promotion of human rights, social justice, and good governance. We also promote the use of socio-political and economic rights through various public awareness programs, journalism, human rights education and communication technology.
